Born in Argentina, the flautist María Cecilia Muñoz has been a prize-winner at many national and international competitions. She can be heard as a soloist with major symphony and chamber orchestras, as well as in fascinating recitals with brilliant pianists and chamber music partners and in modern music concerts.
María Cecilia Muñoz has been successful at countless competitions, such as the “Nielsen International Competition” in Denmark, the “Beijing Nicolet International Flute Competition” in China, the “Crusell International Flute Competition” in Finland, the “Jeunesse Musicales International Competition” in Belgrade and the “International Aeolus Bläser-Wettbewerb” in Germany.
In 2013 was released her debut album “Couleur” together with the Canadian pianist Tiffany Butt. The CD is dedicated to the French repertoire and was recorded and produced by the german label ARS Produktion. Followed by another solo album “Konzerte” in 2014 with the Basel Chamber Orchestra and the harpist Sarah O’Brian.
In 2024 was released her new album “LIBERTAD” The Will to Freedom, again in collaboration with Tiffany Butt and the German label ARS-Produktion.
With her wide range of repertoire she has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in prominent halls such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Konzerthaus Berlin, Konzerthaus Dortmund, the Tonhalle Düsseldorf and Zürich, the Casino Basel and at important festivals including the Menhuin Festival Gstaad, Davos Festival and the Tage für neue Musik Zürich, together with Tiffany Butt, Riccardo Bovino, the Festival Strings Lucerne, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Kammerorchester Basel, Deutsche Kammerakademie, Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, Mendelssohn Kammerorchester Leipzig, Ensemble Laboratorium, Belgrade Stings Orchestra, Saint Petersburg Cappella Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra Virtuosi di Kuhmo, Teatro Colón Opera Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of Salta and Córdoba and National Radio Orchestra in Argentina.
As an orchestral musician Maria Cecilia Muñoz has had the opportunity to play under renowned conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, Charles Dutoit and Heinz Holliger. Since 2013 she is member of the Opera Orchestra of the Colon Theater in Buenos Aires/Argentina. Previously she was the solo flutist of the Camerata Bern and Sinfonieorchester Jura/Switzerland. She also collaborates with the Basel and Lausanne chamber orchestras.
She completed her education in Argentina under Adriana Rodriguez and in Switzerland with Felix Renggli, in the well-known soloists-class of the Hochschule Basel. Her studies were complemented by, among others, Aurele Nicolet, who inspired her greatly.
Major supporters of her talent include the Stiftung Mozarteum in Argentina and the Mozart Gesellschaft Dortmund, the Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund, the Schweizerische Tonkünstlerverein and the Basler Orchester-Gesellschaft.
She is extremely committed to performing contemporary music and was a member of the modern music ensemble “laboratorium”, with whom she has played in many festivals and premiered many works written especially for the ensemble.
